I do not d...lel, you have missed my point entirely. I do not defend cheating in any way and neither does Belichik. He took his punishment without whining and I never said he was right to do what he did. Just once I would like a “fan” of another team be honest enough to admit that he got caught doing things everyone in professional has done and it hurts no one. It is not like taking steroids and setting an unhealthful example for young people (Look at the bodies on both line of scrimmage in any NFL game and tell me you honestly believe that they aren’t doing that…) Teams will always be trying to figure out what the opposition’s next move is. I am sure they are all still trying to steal each others signals (an expression borrowed from baseball)- just in sneakier ways. He did nothing blatant, harmful or destructive.

The point is that Belichik figures out what he needs to do to win and goes as far in that direction as possible. Something the Israeli Army has agreed not to do- they are checking with the lawyers first. Belichik knows that anyone of the inferior teams that they come up against (even your precious Giants) can upset them on any given day and he wants to in assure success as well as he can within the framework of the game. Israel is in grave danger because they have taken the course you would like Belichik to take.

Your moral outrage over Belichik is unbecoming, lel. And your dismisivness is irrational, what Bill and The Pats have done this year is much more than “having a good year”. You are just silly to guarantee a win against them a week from tomorrow- Just as silly as Americans “knowing” we are safe from Islamist terror here or Israelis “knowing” that they can hold off the whole Arab world forever. We all have to understand there are no such guarantees. For every challenge we have to stand up, prepare ourselves for all-out war, and we must not pull any punches.

Good luck to you and the Giants- You’ll need it.Yaacov Ben Moshehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16711165551258127500noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625076107995960519.post-850414839947109612008-01-26T14:51:00.000-05:002008-01-26T14:51:00.000-05:00"He knows the difference between inventive strateg..."He knows the difference between inventive strategy and cheating and is not afraid to walk the thin line between them to secure victory".
-----------
So basically you defend his cheating. If one has to cheat to win, then they aren't so great after all.

BTW the patriots are vastly overrated. They just happen to be having a very good season. The Giants will win, I guarantee it.

Oh and BTW, with regard to islam, on that issue I certainly agree with you.LELhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14973177230144550659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625076107995960519.post-5940971015069959672008-01-24T19:43:00.000-05:002008-01-24T19:43:00.000-05:00Very good analysis of Coach Belichik and his metho...Very good analysis of Coach Belichik and his methods for success. He seems to be a disciple of the philosophy of the "Inner Game of Tennis" by W. Timothy Galway.(It's an old book. I read it in the 70s. It's about tennis, but the philosophy [the Inner Game] is applicable to all areas of life.) Galway's philosophy of life was to always strive to do your best and to follow the paths that were suited to you, not to someone else.(Clear your mind and don't try to imitate others.) In other words be true to yourself and always do your best. He pointed out that it was no favor to a less skilled opponent to lower your game to his level. If always play your best you raise your opponent's game by forcing him to try harder. Only through the single minded pursuit of excellence is excellence achieved and improved upon.

But what about those who are less talented, less gifted? Galway says that there will always be a range of talent and ability in all endeavours. If a person has truly played to the very best of his ability then he can be satisfied. Not everyone can be a winner, but we can all do our best.

There will always be winners and losers and there is little fairness in life. All we can do is work hard, raise our game, and do the best we are capable of. If we have done that we will have made the world a better place.

Belichik and the Pats are an example of a coach and team practicing what Galway talked about. They are raising the standard of coaching and play for the entire NFL. Everyone should thank them for that.

I contend that Galway's philosophy carries over into warfare. We do our enemies no favors by fighting with one hand tied behind our backs. Swift and deadly operations aimed at quick and overwhelming victory saves lives and resources on both sides. Neither Israel nor the U.S. can do this because we let the nattering nabobs of negativity put doubt in our minds as they carp and criticise from the sidelines.

As you point out our society has lost that message. Instead of advocating and admiring excellence in everything, we are taking the opposite tack. Trying to make life fair and equitable lowers standards everywhere. Solzhenitsyn recognized this. When a team or a country becomes too pleased with their success, they begin to go backward. Belichik recognizes it and gets criticised.

It's time for a rebirth of Tim Galway's philosophy in the West!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625076107995960519.post-48516163670671947182008-01-24T09:36:00.000-05:002008-01-24T09:36:00.000-05:00Interesting thoughts, guys! Yaacov you succeed in making us think every time.It says much about our character that we don't just want to kill the jihadists, but upon successfully defeating them, we desire to assist in re-building the community. Is this a conservative/liberal concept or once again the difference between Western/Eastern philosophy?

Are we prepared in this multi-cultural age to act as the British did in India by outlawing suttee when we are victorious by maybe holding the families of suicide bombers accountable? Could this be how the "Common Ills Clown" comes to his ridiculous conclusion to the Anbar retaliation?

So, in the Leftist/Liberal mind every suicide bomber should be able to detonate at will without fear of reprisal. Nothing merciful or productive there.

The problem with current Western thought is that we get this false sense of mercy before absolute victory. This only perpetuates the agony for the innocents by allowing the wounded enemy to regroup for warring another day. Also, nothing merciful or productive there. Look at Cuba for American "wobbly" policy and of course Gaza and Lebanon for Israeli "weeble wobbles".

I fear we have lost the concept of swift and just warfare. We've fallen for the "timeout" method of foreign policy. Haven't parents come to the conclusion that "timeout" only drags out the inevitable need for immediate action? It only annoys the songless pigs and the parents become a frazzled bundle of nerves.

Concerning Irshad Manji and others who remain true to the Left regardless of the facts. Marginalized people believe, many times falsely, especially today, that they need a liberal culture in order to survive. This is true in a strict dictionary sense, but the cultural definition of "liberal" has shifted so much as to mean the opposite of the original definition. The codifying of liberalism into law defies the philosophical foundation of liberal thinking. The letter of the law kills.

But yet the marginalized are still loathed to consider conservatism a safe harbor. Note how the MSM plays the conservatism straw dog with the recent reference to the Stars and Bars flying in South Carolina when covering the Republican debate or by referring to Islamofascism as conservative Islam. The first is ridiculous in a historical sense and the second a political ploy to portray Christians and Islamofascists as equal evils. Absurd.

In conclusion - who would believe that it is conservative in both instances to kill the b***rds before they kill us and to rebuild their nation in preparation to enter a new age?Nancy Coppockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01938274161807178689noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625076107995960519.post-67828525938217254022008-01-23T18:28:00.000-05:002008-01-23T18:28:00.000-05:00Oh, man, to see a beautiful example of "the enemy ...Oh, man, to see a beautiful example of "the enemy within," check out this analysis of the Anbar story by some clown on the Net w/a popular blog:
http://thecommonills.blogspot.com/2008/01/nyt-provides-news-jumble.html

"Let's be sure that little savage's head gets a PROPER burial!"Jewish Odysseushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16704379332151214452noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625076107995960519.post-54736316381133754672008-01-23T16:34:00.000-05:002008-01-23T16:34:00.000-05:00This touches, I think, on the vital debate to be h...This touches, I think, on the vital debate to be had among committed counterjihadists:

To what extent are we animated by fundamentally conservative principles?

And to what extent by liberal ones?

To what extent does success in preventing -- let alone victory in defeating sharia-based, imperialist Islam -- depend on liberal values? (expansion of free trade, nation-building, modernization of Muslim societies)?

This has something to do with the intense debate exactly a year ago. at CPAC 2007, between Robert Spencer and Dinesh D'Souza. It also has to do with the muddle the GOP is in right now (Bush betraying his own doctrine; Ron Paul's small but stubborn numbers in the primaries) and the fact that several liberal Muslims and Westerners (e.g., lesbian Irshad Manji) remain affiliated with and loyal to the political left and center.Jeremayakovkahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00741574721409282988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1625076107995960519.post-70961345010636350132008-01-23T14:21:00.000-05:002008-01-23T14:21:00.000-05:00Fabulous post, brotherYaakov! It is strange to imagine that it is "controversial" in some quarters to say that the only way to deal with wealthy, religiously-inspired homicidal maniacs is to track them down and kill them, and seize their assets. For 9,940 of the past 10,000 years this would have been seen as a self-evident truism.

Did you see what some Anbar tribesmen did this week when an AQ terror-bomber detonated himself and some humans? They went to HIS FAMILY'S HOUSE, burned it down, and told the survivors that if they stayed they'd be killed.

So who has the healthier approach to jihadism, us or the Anbar tribesmen?

BTW, I cdn't help but think of GAZA when I read this:
"It is the young men who say yes or no. He who led on the young men is dead. It is cold, and we have no blankets; the little children are freezing to death. My people, some of them, have run away to the hills, and have no blankets, no food. No one knows where they are—perhaps freezing to death."

Too bad Ehud the Simpleton doesn't have the wit of an old US Cavalry general...Now he's opening the Gaza spigot again. Talk smack about America - no money for a year. America needs to act like a man out in the world.

2) My Dad told a parable about some neighborhood punks standing on the fence taunting my special sister. When told they should move on - nothing. When told to move on you little s.o.b.s or I'm going to whip your asses - they moved on. Moral: Sometimes you just can't talk Vacation Bible School to people.

3) The letter of the law brings death as sure as ignoring the law does.

4) The same people that screech about separation of church and state are the same people screeching war is never the answer. They deny the individual his right to worship according to his choice, but require the nation to practice turn the other cheek as foreign policy. Don't you just love it when the dogma knife slices both ways?

5) Solzhenitsyn is right about other nations not wanting to become Western Civilizations. The stupidity related in this post gives reason enough. Self-loathing is not appealing to others.

6) A rumor here in Bush 41 Library Country went that Bush 43 told Saudi leaders if another attack happened on American soil, Mecca would be f'ing glass.

7) Wouldn't we have to get rid of the United Nations? Allowing nations parity regardless of behavior is not only stupid, but dangerous.

8) Freedom is not achieved through hedonism but rather through individual morality to God.

9) I agree with you and Seraphic Secret on Israel's defense policy. As my special sister told the rest of the family, "I'm a people, too!" Israel is a nation with all rights. I think it is a credit to Jewish tolerance that the Al Aqsa mosque still stands. Plus the muslem graveyard at the Eastern gate will not impede our Messiah's triumphal entry.

10) Treason should be recognized as a threat to our existence as defined in the Declaration of Independence and punishment become swift and sure.

11) I have written extensively on the idea the Democratic Party is an archaic body offering nothing to the betterment of our nation. It is time that party went the way of the political dodo. Friends don't let friends vote Democrat.

12) Manliness asserts individual freedom. Manliness is good for our culture. See #1) in this list. The United States must behave manly. As a young elementary school girl, I knew "man" included me too. The lawyerly listing of every permutation of sex (yes sex, not gender) robs everyone of personal freedom.Nancy Coppockhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01938274161807178689noreply@blogger.com
